Alstroemeria
In my garden,
there are flowers,
covered with colorful tones of pink,
bringing joy to grey days
Flowers that comfort me
Delicate soft petals,
that dance in the breeze,
So fragile,
like butterfly wings
A charming aroma,
hypnotising, yet so sweet,
like fresh strawberries
So strong that even after winter,
they are still standing there
They never let me down,
always there for me
The beauty of these flowers,
it transcends human comprehension,
Acting like it doesn’t belong to nature

I wanted to start by saying that this is a wonderful title for a poem – not everyone will be familiar with this flower’s name, but their curiosity will be piqued by the title and that’s one of the joys of poetry – it makes us curious about the world. The poem does a wonderful job of evoking these flowers through use of the senses, and the comparison to a butterfly’s wing is particularly apt. The evocation of strawberry scent also activates the reader’s senses. In terms of suggestions, the only thing I wonder is if the last line is quite summing up what you want to say – the flowers are seen very much as part of nature earlier in the poem. Perhaps really, rather than not seeming part of nature at the end, they’re actually transcending nature as well as human comprehension? Just a small thought though – this is really engaging work!
