English Class

As I settle into my chair, the teacher’s words fade into murmurs and I start observing my classmates. A whisper here, the click of a pen there, all coalescing into the environment I know so well. All

small movements

hiding a wealth of stories-

the comfort of  belonging

Editor’s Note

The ease with which this writer shows the reader his subject, that of a classroom as it settles down and begins to work, is subtle and assured, and the images and language used well chosen.  All combine to achieve an effect well summed up in the final three lines, the last of which ‘the comfort of belonging’, forms the heart of a subtle but highly effective narrative.
