Haikus

fast steps to get home

a sweet shimmering river

back into traffic

evening light falling through

shining gold flicks fly around

never recreated

Editor’s Note

Both of these linked haiku work really well individually and together.  I was especially caught by how ‘a sweet shimmering river’ flows (like that river) into the surprise of ‘back into traffic’ on the third line.

In the second section, the third line ‘never recreated’ was also unexpected in the way in which it finished the whole poem while also leaving the reader enough room for further thought.
