Summer Days
Waves lap the shore
The sun shines bright
Water washes away what was there before
Sand glistens in the light

Editor’s Note
Short poems can be the most difficult to achieve and I admired the way in which this writer has made the very most out of her four lines. A description of what at first reading might be seen as one simple, natural event: waves coming in and going out on a shore, seems to allude to something much more profound here. The deft, unfussy use of language and images, and an unforced rhyme are all combined in a poem to which I kept returning.
