The darkness comes the darkness goes
It’s like a feeling that no one knows
It’s a place where life ends
It’s a place that twists and bends
You never know what’s in front of you
You never know what’s behind you
When the light comes up you will have hope
and then the only way to go
Will be up up up.
Note From Editor
This is a very nice, concise study of the idea of ‘darkness’ – what it feels like, what it does to our minds, how we think about it. It also seems to describe metaphorical darkness, the more complex idea of not knowing which way to go, or what’s ahead, in our thoughts or our lives. I think the poet has managed to pack a lot of meaning into these short, rhythmic lines!
